My
main claim to fame is bronze sculpture. However it can take up to a year
to sculpt and cast a nice bronze and it is very expensive. Photography
allows me to be creative all year rather than occasionally. I initially
was interested in manipulated digital artwork and didn’t really care
about the photographic quality of the image as I was going to alter it
anyway but I gradually became interested in photography itself and the
challenge it presented. I approach photography as an artist rather than
as a photographer trying to be artistic. The camera is just another brush
or carving tool to me.
I would be considered a “primitive” artist
as I’ve no training or education in the arts. I just jump right in
and learn through trial and mostly error. I consider the diversity of the
human form and the variability of light to be the most interesting subject.
To take a human being that you don’t know and try to find out what
makes them different and then be able to express that to a viewer is my
greatest challenge and interest.
