Izaak
Peter Slagt is a photographer and photo-editor from Holland. He's been
into photography since he was eleven years old but fate directed him to a
career in concert promotions. It wasn't until he started shooting pictures
of his wife Marlies that he started to get serious about photography.
Initially the photos he was shooting were just for he and her to share.
But as time went on he and Marlies began to see a progressive improvement
in his work. And at Marlies' request he phased himself out of doing
concert work and started to explore professional opportunities in
photography.
He cites Imogen Cunningham, Jan Saudek, and Grigori Galitsyn as major
injfluences and was particularly enthralled by the imagery in Galitsyn's
"Old House" Series, which he discovered last year. The
incredible beauty of that work made an indelible impression on the young
Dutchman, especially Galitsyn's impeccable use of color and natural
lighting. Izaak particularly concentrates on inserting emotional themes
into his work, where he tries to funnel the beauty of his subject into a
definable feeling or statement.
