Allan
Schaap, LRPS is a professional freelance photographer based in the central
Netherlands. With more than 20 years experience in the field, studio
and darkroom, Allan is a firm believer in technological development and
uses only professional digital single reflex cameras and the finest lenses(currently
a Canon EOS 1Ds Mark II and L series lenses.). The days of stuffy and
claustrophobic dark rooms and acrid chemical smells are over for this photographer. He
strives to exact the finest quality images for post editing, printing and
publishing.
Allan has had his work published in numerous books, magazines
and promotional material (local and international), and has held two major
exhibitions; in Johannesburg, South Africa and in Holland. Allan has also
won many photographic competitions and has had a print selected for the
Royal Photographic Society's 2005 International Print Exhibition. He has
futher achieved a licentiateship distinction from the Royal Photographic
Society of Great Britain and is currently working towards associateship.
Fine art nude, portrait and landscape photography are his main interests
and he has been inspired by celebrated photographers such as: Brandt, Weston,
Hamilton, W.Eugene Smith, Karsh, Cartier Bresson and Haskins. His approach
to nude and glamour photography is simple and fundamental and portrays
the female form in its natural beauty. He often prefers to shoot fine art
nude on location outdoors and in rural establishments, such as fields,
old farmhouses and barns. The multitude of harsh textures and lighting
further enhance the curves, smoothness and unblemished beauty of the female
nude while same remains the principal subject within the image. The viewer
is often unaware of the deliberate care taken in the composition and pose
to achieve this difficult balance.
When time permits and in-between projects,
Allan will be found wading through a gin-clear stream in the
mountains somewhere in Europe, practicing his second greatest passion:
fly-fishing.
