O'Meara
Owen
O'Meara is a modern day Renaissance man. After earning his B.S. in
Chemistry along with minors in Philosophy and Biology he went on to become
a doctor of medicine. He also studied painting and in 1963 he started to
teach himself the art of photography. Everything he does, he does well.
Which partially explains his move to photography from painting (he didn't
think he had the talent for it). Over the years Owen has exhibited his
work in countless galleries and exhibitions throughout the U.S. and has
served as a faculty member for The Center of Fine Photography in
Denver.
Owen's initial efforts at photography were directed towards landscapes,
which he claims were a failure. A chance meeting with the renown
photographer Ruth Bernhard piqued his interest in the human figure and he
has focused on that genre ever since. Owen considers the nude to be
without limit with regards to interpretation. "It has been studied
since art first was made and will continue to be studied as long as
artists live and create. I would imagine that the figure will continue to
dominate my work for the near future, but another chance meeting could
change that."
