Meyer was born in Germany in 1963. He started taking pictures
at a young age, shooting his classmates at
school. He turned professional in 189, after working as an assistant
for a well know industrial photographer. His first jobs were assignments
for the German magazines Glanzlicht and Boulevard, where
he shot portraits and
worked on features of European celebrities. He opened his own studio
in Frankfurt and began doing advertising work
for various commercial clients. His 1993 cover shot featured on Max magazine
resulted in major exposure and led to his first exhibition in Berlin.
In 1994, Thomas sold his studio in Frankfurt and moved to New York City
to focus on editorial work and celebrity portraiture. Since then, his
work has been featured in numerous magazines as well as two books from
publisher Edition Olms. Currently
Thomas Meyer is preparing his first monograph.
