Dave
Levingston
A
graduate in Photojournalism from Ohio University (Athens),
Dave Levingston has worked professionally for many years in the newspaper
and
magazine
industry. Figure photography has been a personal passion for several years.
He works completely with digital
technology, presently using a Nikon D100. But
the camera really doesn't matter, he says, nor does the recording method.
What matters is the vision of the photographer. "I believe that artists
discover, rather
than choose their subject matter. For me, women are the subjects that
have repeatedly drawn my attention.
The female body is the original aesthetic object, the source
of all our ideas of what is beautiful.
I’m interested in light and shadow, the tension between light and dark,
both in photos and in people.
In
2002 I began to work a great deal outside the studio, exploring the relationship
of the figure to the natural environment. The nude figure seems to me to
inherently belong in scenes of natural beauty.
