Dax
Kuehn was born and raised in Missoula, Montana. He plans to attend medical
school and hopes to become a pediatric surgeon. But much like Richard
Selzer and William Carlos Williams, two doctors who shared a love for both
medicine and the art of writing, he hopes that as a doctor he retains his
love for the arts, particularly photography. As he relates, "Art to
me is a release, a method in which I can express my thoughts and feelings,
and a way to break away from the smothering constraints of reality and
embrace my creativity. Of art and medicine, Williams said it best when he
said, “one occupation complements the other, that they are two parts to
a whole, that it is not two jobs at all, one rests the man when the other
fatigues him.” No one should go through life focusing on one particular
aspect either science or art, for it is in the melding of these two
supposed dichotomies that one will find the true meaning of happiness. ..
My artwork reflects the way in which I view the human form, graceful and
perfect. I use the female form because of its fragility, elegance, and
sheer beauty, whose curvature created by the figure, is sleek and
majestic. Photography allows me to capture the simplicity, and sensuality
of a woman’s body, exposing a pure human form that is highlighted by the
absence of color, crating an illuminating aura of perfection."
Dax uses a Canon AE-1 and a Kiev 88 as his primary cameras, and all his
photos are shot with Kodak tech pan film, and developed in a specialty
developer chemistry that he created himself. More of his work can be seen
at his website.
