Ivana
Ford was born and raised in Southern California's Inland Empire.
Self-taught in photography and a bit of a flunky. A friend commented to
her once that he felt uneasy when he watched her work. He was formally
trained in photography and found her methods to be uncomfortably
unorthodox. It was one of the best compliments she had ever
received.
In the late eighties and early nineties Ivana documented the Los Angeles
underground techno-house scene. The photos were published in her little
fanzine, Sensured. The unpredictability of the locations and
lighting conditions, along with the spontaneity of the club-goers,
provided the perfect mix of sexual energy and mesmerizing drama.
Ivana’s work is primarily internet-based. Her websites have allowed her
to have complete control over her work and have provided her with access
to an ever growing international audience. With Power Divas she has
explored the female physique genre, playing with the juxtaposition of
muscularity and femininity. Vixen Obscura is her latest project
with which she has been able to expand her "trashy, candid
cinema" series of portraits.
