Heather
Corinna worked in front of the camera and as an artist's model and art
director for years before she stepped behind it. In the tradition of
model-turned-photographers Bunny Yeager and Ellen von Unwerth, Heather
took what she learned from one side of the lens and now applies it on the
other. Her artistic style merges universal themes, mythology and
archetypes, and displays diverse and realistic body types and aspects of
women's sexuality. Her work explores issues of body image, gender,
sexuality, identity, the juxtaposition of the natural world and
industrialism and other aspects of the human experience.
A graduate of the acclaimed Chicago Academy for the Arts and a refugee
from a small alternative college, Heather is the queer founder and editor
of the pioneering sexuality arts webzine scarletletters.com, the young
adult sex education site scarleteen.com and the pansexual erotica portal
femmerotic.com, and makes her living as a writer, editor, and visual
artist. Her fiction and nonfiction have appeared online in numerous
venues, and in print in Viscera,
The Adventures of Food, Aqua Erotica,
Zaftig:
Well-Rounded Erotica, The Mammoth Book of Best New Erotica 1 &
2, Shameless: An Intimate Erotica, Penthouse
and On Our
Backs.
Her work in
sexuality education and activism has garnered accolades widely, from
Playboy Online
to the
Utne Reader,
and she has a young adult sexuality
guide forthcoming with Cleis Press in 2005. She is also a poet, a trained
classical, jazz and folk musician, and a former kindergarten teacher.
Raised in Chicago, she currently lives in Minneapolis where she smokes
profusely, drinks a lot of coffee, boxes to grow new bruises, keeps a pug
on her lap at all times and never stops working.
