David
Agasi
While studying for h is
bachelor's degree in fine arts at the Mason Gross School of the Arts at
Rutgers University, David Agasi took a photography class. After shooting
only a few rolls of film he knew that he wanted to make this his artistic
medium. And he did just that. He initially gravitated to portraiture and
then to the nude.
After graduating, he moved to San Francisco, a city that in the early 90's
was a haven for artists. David shot a lot of photos during this period
until he moved to the University of Delaware in 1997 for his MFA. Nudes
and portraits are still fascinating for him and he goes back and forth,
playing one off the other like alter egos. He confesses to being drawn to
artists whose work represents a degree of mystery, where all the pieces
are not in place. Bill Brandt and Ralph Gibson are favorites for this
reason, as is filmmaker David Lynch.
David's work has been viewed in ISSUE magazine, Alternative Press, and
Paramour. He is currently a featured artist at Projekt Records in NYC,
with a new series of nudes on the way this fall. He is currently living in
