R.
J. Young
R.J. Young is a photographer based in the Portland, Oregon area. He was
born there in 1971. He was raised in the area, and at an early age found
a passion for two things: music and the nude female form. Now, Young makes
his living as a musician, and spends his money on his other passion.
Photographing
women is an expensive venture on a musician’s wages. But passion
is passion. As Young has taken photography courses and he has some formal
training, Young’s education is in music. Most of what he knows about
photography, he has learned by doing. He experiments constantly with new
ideas and new techniques. Within one month of buying his first camera,
he acquired all the darkroom equipment he needed. So for the last fourteen
years, Young has been printing most of the work that he shoots. Only over
the last few years, he has been shooting more color. And now because of
ease, cost efficiency and the limitless possibilities, Young has moved
mostly to digital.
R.J. considers himself to be a very visually stimulated
person. A very visually stimulated man, that is. When he sees a beautiful
woman, he does not think what the typical man thinks, he thinks about how
he could photograph that woman nude in a stylish way. To Young there is
nothing more beautiful and captivating than the nude female form. He only
wants to capture that beauty in a unique way. He credits his influences
to 1970’s Playboy (he collects them) and many European photographers
too numerous to list. But he loves Jeanloup Sieff. To Young, Sieff was
all about the simplicity of composition. Nothing more needed.
Currently
Young is working on content for his brand new website of his work called
www.thegoodnudes.com. So when he’s not playing music, he’s
off photographing beautiful nude women. Now there is a whole lot more of
his work to see.
