Brad
Wallis
Near
the end of his life, Jim Morrison of the Doors was being interviewed, and
was asked about his success as a musician and rise to fame as a rock star.
He shocked the reporter when he said that if he could do it all over
again, he would have taken a different path. One that allowed him to be a
small-time poet who was allowed to tend to his garden in peace and
contemplation. He would have totally eschewed the spotlight. Such is the
cost of notoriety. Brad Wallis is like this. Had he been living in a more
high profile city such as New York or Paris the last few years he would
undoubtedly have been "discovered" and jettisoned to fame in the
art and photography worlds. But he has chosen to tend to his craft in
Portland, Oregon. And he works inconspicuously alongside his neighbors in
this beautiful metropolis that's completely outside of the publishing
sector.
The body of work he's created is gargantuan in size and is difficult to
describe, it possesses such breadth and wonder. But one theme that does
run through much of it is a hedonistic, sensual approach to life. Poets
and satyrs chasing their dreams of pleasure and excitement, lovers in
rapture, naked hippies at Burning Man, writhing orgies, and soft, sensual
nudes. Much of this work is now available for viewing in his stunning new
e-book, The Erotic Works of Brad Wallis.
