Robert
Van Brustum
Born
May 25th, 1951 in Brusels, Belgium, Robert Van Brustum is a dedicated
amateur photographer who makes his living working in a bank ins Brussels.
He taught himself the techniques of photography and recalls making his
first black & white darkroom prints in 1993.
Jazz, blues, and rock concerts, as well as street photography were his
first points of interest, as he became increasingly passionate in his
studies in light. In 1996 he undertook his first studio session and was
amazed by how one could "manufacture" ones own light. It was
about this time that he became an admirer of the work of photographers
such as Jeanloup Sieff, Jan Saudek, Jonvelle, Peter Lindberg, and Bill
Brandt.
In 1997 he completed his first nude studio shoot. Each of his models were
what he describes as "regular people" or "the girl next
door" type. For some, it was their first photo shoot ever. Robert's
models are invited to collaborate with him during their sessions and their
creative input is essential. His aim, he says, is to create nude and
erotic pictures in which the nudity doesn't come first, but is just one of
the elements within the image. He favors a "non-academic"
approach to artistic nude photography but likes to instill a poetic flavor
into his pictures. As he says, "I want to create artistic nudes with
a "rock & roll" attitude!".
