Peter
Vlcek
Born
in Bratislava (now Slovak Republik) in 1964, Peter Vlcek emigrated to
Switzerland in 1968 with his parents. After graduation he decided, to the
shock and dismay of his parents, to become a photographer instead of
lawyer or dentist or other kind of "professional". He did an apprenticeship
at a local photography studio and also worked for local newspapers.
Peter says he grew bored with "straight Swiss mentality" and
moved to Milan, Italy in 1984, where he worked mainly as a fashion
photographer. He's had his work published in various magazines including Italian
Vogue, Per Lui, Zoom Italia, and La Fotografia. In 1990, after the
fall of the Iron Curtain, he moved back to Bratislava to be with
his family again. After getting married, he based his life out of Vienna,
Austria, where he still lives and works as a freelance photographer.
Traveling to India is one of Peter's deepest passions. He frequents holy
places and shrines there where he takes portraits of the Sadhus.
This is a very personal project for him and he hopes to publish this work
in book form one day.
