Jean
Valjean is a professional photographer engaged to be married. He does
advertising work during the day and shoots nudes as a hobby. But when he's
with his beautiful fiancée, he shoots he and her together in their most
intimate moments. With a Mamiya 645, a couple of flash units and
accessories, along with long-cord shutter release, they are creating a
beautiful documentary of their own lovemaking. It is bewildering in its
honesty and divine in its result. The work they are creating is superb
testimony to the powerful intimacy attained between man and woman when
love is their bond.
Few artists would be willing to be so revealing of themselves. But as Jean
explains it, "I guess I'm trying to create beautiful images from
sexual moments. You could call it pornography created for the human eye
rather than solely for male arousal. Also, having originally started with
self portraits, I have tended to focus on the man in the image - trying to
counterbalance the typical focus on the woman. Personally, I'm fed up with
all the vulgar porn you find everywhere. Sex provides moments of intensity
and beauty that no other motive can equal."
