Steve
Mills
Steve Mills is a self-taught
professional photographer from New York City. He has worked with many of
the world's elite agencies and clients as well as many celebrities. While
growing up Steve developed a deep appreciation for the aesthetic and
cultural opportunities his city afforded him. One of his first loves was
the work of the great masters Rembrandt and Fragonard. But interestingly
he did not develop a passion for painting but instead saw photography as
the medium where he could make creative use of light and shadow. His
earliest work looked more like paintings than photographs, he says, and
though he feels his current work is more photo-like it still bears strong
testimony to those early influences. As he relates, ".. I seek to
capture a measure of romance by combining the use of soft lighting and
sensitivity in my images of beautiful woman. I have always preferred to
photograph by daylight in a room setting filled with timeless objects.
This enables the model to express herself in ways that are evocative yet
natural."
Steve's studio in New York with its windows and skylights provides the
perfect haven for creating his ethereal nudes. Yet some of his most
intimate and personal work has been shot on his 100 acre farm in upstate
New York where he can photograph his subjects in flowered gardens and
endless meadows. Surroundings that he considers ideal to compliment the
beauty of the female form.
