Lorenzo
Masolini
Lorenzo Masolini lives in the
city of Prato, Italy. He studied fashion photography in Florence beginning
in 1994 and after graduating started working as a photo assistant to the
school's director. He learned a lot during that year and soon after went
to work for Italy's premier art photographer specializing in shooting
sculptures. He served as an assistant for another year and then opened his
own studio focusing on fashion and advertising work. He also began
studying 19th century printing techniques that use Arabic gum and
watercolors, which eventually transpired in a full blown exhibit in Prato
devoted to prints he created using this process.
Lorenzo uses a medium format Bronica for most of his art work. He
shoots 35mm for his fashion work and occasionally uses a Sinar for
both still life's and nudes. In contrast to his fashion work, which
usually goes by very fast with his shooting hundreds of pictures per
session, he totally slows things down for his art work sometimes taking as
long as 45 minutes on a single shot. He also refrains for showing his
subjects' face, which he feels accentuates the focus on the landscape of
their body.
