Kirchner
Rolf
was born in Cologne, Germany. When he was nineteen he moved to Düsseldorf
to study painting. During this period he was in a terrible motorcycle
accident that nearly killed him. Though he survived he was left with his
right arm totally paralyzed. He managed to continue with his studies and
even studied social work. He married when he was thirty years old and then
moved to a small hamlet called Waldbröl, which is near Cologne. Though
the marriage did not last he was blessed with two wonderful daughters.
For the past twenty years has worked in the psychiatric profession. It was
during this time that Rolf began to take pictures. His nudes were more of
an effort to accentuate his painting, but later he started to merge the
two mediums and now he is quite an astute photographer. He feels that his
near death experience and his twenty years of studying the human mind have
given him a special and unique insight into the human condition. And this
is what he is after in his work. In 1987 he was the winner of the grand
prize at the 18th International Salon of Photographic Art Nude Figure
Studies and Portraiture. And it should be noted that Rolf can still be
seen around Waldbröl cruising on his motorcycle.
