Greg
Heine
Greg
Heine was born in Covington, Louisiana, a growing area thirty miles north
of New Orleans across Lake Ponchatrain. Though he studied Graphic Design
and Illustration in college, he says he didn't really discover his passion
for photography until after he'd purchased his first reliable camera, a
Nikon N60, at age twenty-four. He began simply by taking pictures of his
friends. But the the response he got from this work was so favorable that
the activity really "fired up" his imagination. He's always been
an extremely visual person anyway, he relates, so it was a fortunate if
not natural progression.
Artist Statement: I usually see an image in my head before I physically
compose it. My photographic style has progressed quickly, and I think it
is quite recognizable once a viewer is familiar with my work. I try to be
different from an aesthetic standpoint, even if the pose or composition is
familiar ... there is always something a little off and dreamy about my
pictures. I want the images to seem surreal to the viewer as if you are
witnessing something that doesn't seem totally grounded in reality. I 'm
hoping to find my niche in the photographic world. I don't shrive to be a
world renown ... just respected for trying to be a little different. In
the passed year I embraced digital technology when I purchased a Nikon
D100 and the set of images I am submitting [in Digital Nudes]are
the first totally digital nudes I have ever done. I have been very pleased
with the image quality and the time it saves me. My true love will always
be black & white film based images though ... the look and tone of
film is still very recognizable to me".
