Christian
Holzknecht
He
got his first camera, a Yashica FXD, in 1983. Ten years later Christian
Holznecht was working for the United Nations as a photojournalist shooting
in such locals as Israel, Cyprus, and Syria. He later served as a guest
lecturer in the photography department at the University of Cyprus. In
2000 he opened up Photo Attack Studios where he concentrates on magazine
work shooting travel, celebrity, and lifestyle pieces. He also labors on
his personal work, which centers upon fetish imagery.
Christian
understands the dominant-submissive relationship very well. Some days, he
says, he acts the slave to please the whims of his paying clients. On
others, he becomes a powerful master where his subjects allow him full
control of their bodies as he places them in uncomfortable, and sometimes
risky situations. Models are not allowed to leave the photo shoot until
they've cast off their inhibitions and shown him the most hidden side of
their sexuality. His
work is not about boring fashion clones wearing exotic clothing, he
insists, but is instead a visual testimony where real people experience
true moments of personal liberation.
