Steve
Gladfelter
Steve
Gladfelter is a full time staff photographer at Stanford University.
He has B.F.A. in Photo Illustration from the Rochester Institute of
Technology. Most of his shooting is done for a conservative audience and
is published in a variety of university related magazines and annual
reports. He recently finished work on a book featuring environmental
portraits of, and interviews with, some of Silicon Valleys leading CEO's
and venture capitalists. The book is titled: Stanford Graduate
Fellowships in Science and Engineering, and was created as a way for
the students to become familiar with the donors who support them. Figure
work is something he does for himself. It helps him keep the creative
juices flowing and provides a nice diversion from the everyday work of a
staff photographer. Over the years he's admired the work of a host of
photographers, some famous, and some largely unknown. Some of the famous
photographers whose work he admires most include: Irving Penn, Robert
Mapplethorpe, Richard Avedon, Annie Lebowitz, Edward Stiechen, Alfred
Stieglitz, Jan Sudek, Albert Watson, and Arnold Newman.
