of Czech photographer Jan Saudek, Englishman Peter Grigg crafts his
backgrounds and orchestrates the immediate surroundings of his nude subjects
in such a distinct, creative manner, that it's as if he's painted his
model against a background of his own imagination. This is no accident,
early in his career he was a sign-writer and decorator, and even operated
his own business building TV scenery and stands.
It wasn't until he turned 30 that Peter took up photography as a hobby. He
initially worked in glamour but it was an art magazine featuring a black
& white nude photo that inspired him to channel his energies into
artistic nude photography. With his skills as a scenery builder, he has
been able to construct and decorate his own sets in his studio, which has
given his work a incomparable flair and unique flavor. He cites famed
photographer China Hamilton as his main mentor, though mentions Jan Saudek
and Gilles Berquet as major influences as well.
Peter works with a Mamiya medium format camera. His work has been
published in numerous magazines and books and more of his amazing work can
