Emmanuel Elcian
Emmanuel Elcian is a self-taught French photographer. Born in Paris, he now lives in Brussels while working in both France and Belgium. He generally uses digital cameras, but has increasingly been working with film shooting medium format.
Elcian claims inspiration from such classical painters such as Rembrandt and Egon Schiele. He turned towards the artistic nude and implied eroticism as a means to express intimacy, he says. His work is an intense exploration of human interiority, from which those passions derive. His use of light and shadow are meant to create tension, stirring thoughts and emotions in the viewer that are associated with their notions of intimacy and desire.
