Emmanuel Ciepka
Emmanuel Ciepka was born in Paris where he still lives. He started as a film director, making small budget author movies. One of them Eva Sur Paysage Ordinaire was selected by Perspectives of the French Cinema in the Festival of Cannes (1984). Eventually, he came to see photography as more satisfying and he started working as a professional in 1990.
Emmanuel mainly shoots portraits (he's done numerous books for actors), nudes, and landscapes. In 2006, he published a book of landscapes from the Limousin area in central France, Lisières Limousines. This book quickly sold out, but he is preparing other books focusing on this picturesque region.
When shooting nudes, Emmanuel works within the framework of three concepts:
Simplicity, Truth, and Emotion. He tends to eschew unnatural enhancements that seem so prevalent in modern glamour photography and prefers (simple) natural beauty. He uses 135 black and white films for shooting, then he scans the negatives and works on his pictures in Photoshop.
