Vels is a Dutch photographer married to a Czech girl,
living in Cologne, Germany. He specializes in glamour
photography and has gained a reputation for further
specializing in shooting his nudes in outdoor, public
settings. This is his first book and is a
"sister" publication to his website, Nude-in-Public.com.
Published by Edition-Reuss, Nude In Public is
exactly what the cover suggests - naked girls
photographed in very public places ranging from the
marketplace, to various locations on the public street,
and various other public venues, even a huge sporting
event. How Vels and his models have eluded arrest by the
authorities is testament to both their courage and
cleverness. There is no sense of modesty here, no sense
of real barriers be broken, at least by the girls, but
that's beside the point ... blatantly so. There is
mention of these girls being "street artists"
in the forward written by Karl Schönholtz, and that's
just what these girls appear to be. No impressionist
vision ever matched the seemingly flawless beauty of
these young girls. Perhaps, just perhaps, Vels is on to
something here -- the beautiful human form as ACCEPTED
street art.
