German
photographer Ralf Mohr is arguably one of the elite
portrait photographers in the world today. He is
certainly one of the best at capturing individuals in
the nude. Few others can portray their subjects in such
revealing fashion and do so in the most respectful and
endearing terms. It's almost as if their being nude is
completely forgotten, nothing more than a coincidence,
and is only a small component of the overall
picture.
Both sexes are featured here in fifty-five individual
studies, and though many of his subjects are admittedly
quite attractive, beauty is not the focus here. Honesty
and purity are the core elements. This is not "pop
art" nor is "nude portraiture" but is
quite simply very good portraiture. And like all of
Mohr's previous publications, Contemporary Nudes
is exquisitely created - the main images cover the full
breadth of the 11x11" page, it's hardcover, and the
print quality is flawless. Quite simply, this is a
masterpiece.
